Beginning xojo
Introduction
Welcome to kid coder where programming is made easy for you
and your kids.
If you are here for today’s session, then you have only 99
more steps to become a xojo programmer, for you reading this, you lack nothing
just the fun of hearing the most exciting introduction to programming ever.
The name xojo might sound new to you but you need not worry
about it, the unfamiliar name will not affect your progress in this program,
however you may visit www.rbdeveloper.com to find
out more about the name xojo.
Setting up
Your programming environment (the xojo IDE)
Xojo is popular with Mac developers the language imports the
concept of visual development into the apple family. If you are therefore
running a Mac OS or any other OS besides windows this tutorial will be quite
silent on how to setup xojo on your system do not be discouraged though visit www.xojo.com for an excellent guard on how to
setup xojo on your computer.
That said if you followed our earlier post on our facebook
page you probably have downloaded your copy of xojo from www.xojo.com if you haven’t it’s not too late just visit the site www.xojo.com , create your account and get your
free copy of xojo designed for practice and class work.
Setting
up xojo on windows
The file you downloaded from the xojo site will probably be
named “Xojo2015r1Setup.exe” or a similar name, to run this file on your windows
system. Open the downloads folder where all your downloaded files are saved and
double click the file you got from xojo.com, follow the screen prompts to setup
you xojo studio on your windows OS.
NB: The copy you downloaded comes without a license, during
the installation therefore, the setup program may request you acquire one, for
this program you might not need to obtain a license you can therefore choose
the alternative option and complete the installation. Your copy can be
registered later when you need to enable some features such as deployment and
building standalone applications.
When the setup program is completed the studio might be
automatically launched if note click the xojo icon on your desktop wait while
the program is being loaded.
Xojo starts to load libraries and other tools needed to setup
the studio.
Xojo project chooser, this launches after all libraries and
required files have been loaded. Leave the selected option and enter a name
maybe “our_dump_program” for the application and click ok.
This now launches your xojo IDE as shown below;
If you made it here congratulations you have successfully
setup your xojo IDE, as such you are now ready to journey with us as we explore
xojo.
To be sure that our IDE is properly setup click
button on the IDE if your studio is well setup like mine you
will see the following window.
Congratulations if you obtained this result you have
successfully created your first xojo project which creates a window let us call
it our “dump program”.
We encourage you to play around the user interface get to see
some of the features hidden in each menu option in preparation for our next
tutorial where we will tell you more about the IDE and you will learn what to
use each command and control for, and where to find what.
